Sue Ploppert Receives Phil Conturo Memorial Award
In recognition of her continuing contribution to Hedwig House and the level of professionalism she has achieved in her chosen fine arts career, Sue Ploppert received the 2009 Phil Conturo Memorial Award. These and other kind words were expressed by Executive Director Karen Bitting when she announced this year’s award winner at our annual vocational celebration April 30, 2009, at Westover Golf Club.
Sue has been a Hedwig House member since March 1993 and has always contributed more than her share to the clubhouse. She began running an art group weekly on Tuesdays in October 1998 and it has been a fixture ever since. Member participation has always been good and Sue has always presented a variety of interesting art instruction. She is an active participant in the fine arts and it is her career. She is active at Anvil Art Studio, where she also takes classes; she participates and exhibits at Gallery on High in Pottstown; and is a member in good standing of the Pottstown Area Art Guild. In addition, she exhibits in juried shows throughout the region and has won awards at the annual Norristown State Hospital exhibit.
In the clubhouse, she is a kindly mentor to other members, providing advice and counsel, and her wit and wisdom never fail to encourage members and staff alike. My late friend, Phil Conturo, would have been proud to have Sue win the award presented in his name. (TA<tom.armstrong.hm@hotmail.com>)
