Goals

I found out about Hedwig House while I was attending Milestones partial hospital. I had regrouped enough to have the desire to work for money and to have something to occupy my time. I arranged for an interview at Hedwig House to find how it worked. What I found out is that the house has three different areas in which all the people use to develop various skills that can be sued in different types of jobs.

Clerical can be tasks from answering the telephone to making copies, various types of bookkeeping, working on our Newsletter and making different types of computer entries for attendance.

In the kitchen, we find ourselves preparing the noonday meal for those who attend Hedwig House. This means all the varous methods of chopping and paring, baking and satueing that is necessary to render a meal complete.

Coming to Hedwig House and functioning in these areas helps create a routine which aids us in moving back toward a work-like routine. Yet there are other things that can occur: I found a job for a period at the Naval Base in Willow Grove working in the Galley until the base closed.

After the base closed, I decided that I would like to study to become a Certified Peer Specialist. This involved many classes and trainings. Along the way, I attended parts 1 and 2 of the Power Program at Montgomery County Community College. I have become a Certified Peer Specialist and my next goal is to become a Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Specialist, which I am training for at the present time.
