Feature Friday (September 2023) - Joyce
by e3admin
Joyce has been putting a lot of effort into managing her mental health and supports over the past few months. She has been working very hard to connect to new supports and manage her treatment well. She has been taking a more active role in her mental health care and advocating for herself, working toward setting boundaries and respecting the boundaries of others, and has been supporting other members in their own personal journeys. She has been practicing and gaining new coping skill (like knitting, going for walks, and reading) and has been dressing nicely, in ways that make her feel good when she attends program and goes out. She has also been volunteering regularly at her church and doing mission work in local hospitals, utilizing skills she gained in her work as a nurse in hospice care. Congratulations Joyce on your ongoing efforts to support yourself and others, we really appreciate having you in program and seeing your growth!
Feature Friday (August 2023) - Tanya
by e3admin
Tanya is one of our long-time members from the Abington area. She started attending program in 2016 and has been an active participant ever since. She always enjoys working on the computer and learning new things. She is an avid reader and can always be caught with a book in her back pocket. She comes to program with a smile on her face and a good listening ear. She enjoys the different group activities whether it be an in-house group discussion, on budgeting or health and wellness, or an activity out in the community, such as attending the Abington Art Center. Even when she was out for about a month due to hip surgery, she kept in touch with her peers and staff via zoom a few times each week. She has since recovered from this operation and is back to attending program in person every week. Tanya, we appreciate having you as a member of our community!
Feature Friday (July 2023) - Steve
by Hedwig House
Steve has been a long-standing member at HH house.  He is and always has been active in all our activities, outings, volunteer opportunities, and events.  Over the last few years, we have had the pleasure of seeing Steve come closer to achieving his goals of independent living.  Steve has consistently set some great and realistic goals and understands that he must work on them one at a time.  He is persistent in expanding his knowledge and education.  He is always kind and willing to help out both peers and staff.  Steve just celebrated his birthday and will be moving to a new apartment next month which requires more independence continuing to work towards his goals of independent living. Happy Birthday and Congratulations Steve! We are proud of your achievements and grateful to have you as a member of Hedwig House!
